The DeKalb County Public Library is located at 504 Grand Avenue Northwest and is open on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Borrowing privileges are extended to anyone living or working in DeKalb County. To register, you need to present a valid ID with a current address. The application must be signed by a parent or guardian if you are between the ages of 6 and 18. The parent or guardian must also be a registered borrower. Library cards are not issued to children under the age of 6.
The DeKalb County Public Library is also part of the Alabama Virtual Library which provides a world of quality library information licensed for Alabama library users. Access is granted to all Alabama citizens at the Alabama public libraries and at libraries of public education facilities. To register for an access card, an individual must visit the local library and meet local library registration policies. The AVL contains a wealth of informational sources such as The Encyclopedia Britannica, Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, HealthSource Plus, KidsQuest, New Book of Knowledge, Poemfinder, Searchasaurus, several Electric Libraries and much more.
In addition to the over 80,000 materials contained within the DeKalb County Public Library, there are also computers available for use with Internet access. No appointments are needed as they are available on a first come, first served basis. Please check with the library for more information on computer use.
